Which Norse god is associated with the boar Gullinbursti?

The story behind the answer

Freyr is the Norse god associated with the boar Gullinbursti.

Gullinbursti, whose name means “Golden Bristles” or “Gold Mane,” is a supernatural boar created by the dwarf brothers Eitri and Brokkr. Their contest with Loki produced several famous treasures, including Freyr’s ship Skíðblaðnir and Odin’s spear Gungnir. Eitri fashioned the boar from a pig’s hide while Brokkr worked the bellows.

The boar’s shining bristles could illuminate the darkness, and Gullinbursti was swift enough to travel through air and water. Freyr could ride it or use it to draw his chariot. In one tradition, Freyr rides Gullinbursti to Baldr’s funeral; another describes the boar pulling his chariot.

Gullinbursti is sometimes confused with Freyja’s cats, Thor’s goats, or Odin’s eight-legged horse Sleipnir. Freyr’s animal symbolism also connects him with fertility, prosperity, kingship, and harvests, while the boar was an important emblem in wider Germanic ritual culture.
