Orhan Pamuk won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2006 and wrote My Name Is Red.
Pamuk is a Turkish novelist, screenwriter, and academic born in Istanbul in 1952. His novels frequently explore memory, identity, East–West cultural encounters, Istanbul, and the relationship between tradition and modernity.
My Name Is Red, published in Turkish in 1998, is a historical mystery set among Ottoman miniaturists in Istanbul during the 16th century. Its narrators include people, objects, and even a murdered artist, creating a deliberately layered structure.
The Swedish Academy described Pamuk as a writer who discovered new symbols for the clash and interlacing of cultures. He became the first Turkish Nobel laureate in Literature, making his award especially significant in Turkey’s literary history.
