Mario Party 10's Amiibo Party mode uses Nintendo's amiibo toy line. Players scan compatible amiibo figures to play on small, circular boards where coins, power-ups, and board layouts can vary by character.
Amiibo launched in 2014 as Nintendo's toys-to-life platform, using near-field communication (NFC) to connect figures and cards with compatible games. Mario Party 10, released for Wii U in 2015, was one of the early games designed to make amiibo central to a dedicated mode rather than merely unlock a bonus.
A common mix-up is treating amiibo as a single Mario-themed product line. Mario Party 10 supports selected figures from both the Super Mario and Super Smash Bros. amiibo lines. The figures are not the same as Skylanders, although both belong to the broader toys-to-life category. In Amiibo Party, players compete to buy stars with coins over ten turns.
