Which Nintendo Switch games introduced the Galar region to the Pokémon series?
Answer
Pokémon Sword and Shield
Answer
Pokémon Sword and Shield
Pokémon Sword and Shield introduced the Galar region to the Pokémon series.
Released for Nintendo Switch in November 2019, Pokémon Sword and Shield are set in Galar, a region inspired largely by the geography and culture of the United Kingdom. Its map includes rural areas, industrial cities, snowy mountains, and the Wild Area, an open region where players can encounter Pokémon in the overworld.
Galar also introduced regional forms, Dynamax and Gigantamax transformations, and several new Pokémon. The games’ two versions share the same broad setting but include version-exclusive Pokémon and some exclusive encounters.
A common mix-up is confusing Galar with Paldea, which debuted in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, or Alola, the setting of Pokémon Sun and Moon. Pokémon Sword and Shield were the first main-series Pokémon games released on Nintendo Switch.
