The Metro Kingdom is one of the major destinations visited by Mario and Cappy during their worldwide journey. Its central city, New Donk City, is a modern urban setting filled with skyscrapers, traffic, construction sites, and festival activities. Pauline, the city’s mayor, is an important character there.
Super Mario Odyssey was released for Nintendo Switch on October 27, 2017. The game uses kingdoms as its broad level structure, with Mario traveling between them aboard the sentient airship Odyssey. Each kingdom contains Power Moons, which fuel the ship and unlock further travel.
The city’s name deliberately recalls Donkey Kong, where Pauline originally appeared. Players sometimes call the area New Donk City itself, but that is the city’s name rather than the official name of the surrounding kingdom. The correct kingdom name is Metro Kingdom.
