Which Nintendo Switch game introduced the playable character Inkling from Splatoon as a fighter?

The story behind the answer

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate introduced the playable Inkling fighter from Splatoon.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launched for Nintendo Switch on December 7, 2018. Its roster includes the Inkling, a character based on the player avatars from Nintendo’s Splatoon series. In the fighting game, the Inkling can use weapons and techniques inspired by Splatoon, including ink-based attacks and the ability to transform between humanoid and squid forms.

The Inkling was announced during a Nintendo Direct presentation in March 2018. The character is available in both male and female visual styles, and the fighter’s moveset reflects Splatoon’s emphasis on covering terrain with colored ink. Ink management is part of the character’s gameplay, so players must replenish ink during battles.

Splatoon 2 is not the answer because it is the separate multiplayer shooter in which the Inkling originated as a major playable avatar. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate also includes other Nintendo newcomers and fighters from outside Nintendo, eventually expanding its roster through downloadable content.
