Which Nintendo console was the first Mario Party game released on?

The story behind the answer

The first Mario Party game was released on the Nintendo 64. Developed by Hudson Soft and published by Nintendo, it debuted in Japan in 1998 before reaching North America and Europe in 1999.

Mario Party established the series’ signature formula: up to four players move around themed boards, collect coins, and compete in a minigame after each turn. The game was designed specifically for the Nintendo 64 and was not originally released for the SNES, GameCube, or Wii.

A common mix-up is confusing the first Mario Party with later entries. Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 3 also appeared on the Nintendo 64, while Mario Party 4 was the first main-series game released for the GameCube. The original game featured six playable characters and eight boards, helping define the series before its move to newer Nintendo systems.
