Which NHL team won the Stanley Cup in 2019?

The story behind the answer

The St. Louis Blues won the Stanley Cup in 2019.

St. Louis defeated the Boston Bruins four games to three in the 2019 Stanley Cup Final. The deciding Game 7 was played on June 12, 2019, at Boston’s TD Garden, where the Blues won 4–1. It was the first Stanley Cup championship in the Blues’ history.

The victory ended a remarkable wait. St. Louis had entered the NHL in 1967 and had previously reached the Stanley Cup Final in 1968, 1969, and 1970, losing each series. The 2019 title therefore came during the franchise’s 51st season of play and ended one of the league’s longest championship droughts.

Center Ryan O’Reilly won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP after leading the Blues with 23 points in 26 playoff games. Captain Alex Pietrangelo lifted the Cup for St. Louis. The Bruins were the defending champions’ opponents in a rematch of the 1970 Final, which Boston had swept.
