Which NHL team won four consecutive Stanley Cups from 1980 to 1983?

The story behind the answer

The New York Islanders won four consecutive Stanley Cups from 1980 through 1983.

Their dynasty began when they defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in six games in the 1980 Final. New York then beat the Minnesota North Stars in 1981, the Vancouver Canucks in 1982 and the Edmonton Oilers in 1983. The 1983 victory was a sweep and completed the Islanders' fourth straight championship.

The run was built around a deep, homegrown core that included captain Denis Potvin, forwards Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier and Clark Gillies, and goaltender Billy Smith. Coach Al Arbour and general manager Bill Torrey were also central to the franchise's sustained success.

New York became the second NHL team to win four consecutive Cups, after the Montreal Canadiens. The Islanders' 19 straight playoff-series victories from 1980 through 1984 remain one of hockey's most remarkable postseason records. Edmonton ended the dynasty by beating New York in the 1984 Final.
