Which NHL team was the last to win the Stanley Cup before the 2004-05 lockout?

The story behind the answer

Which NHL team was the last to win the Stanley Cup before the 2004–05 lockout? The Tampa Bay Lightning were the last team to win the Stanley Cup before the lockout.

Tampa Bay defeated the Calgary Flames four games to three in the 2004 Stanley Cup Final. The Lightning won Game 7 by a 2–1 score on June 7, 2004, at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa. It was the franchise’s first Stanley Cup championship and the first major professional sports title for the Tampa Bay area.

The timing made the championship historically unusual. The NHL canceled the entire 2004–05 season after the league and players’ association failed to reach a new collective bargaining agreement. As a result, Tampa Bay remained the reigning champion until the NHL returned for the 2005–06 season, when the Carolina Hurricanes won the Cup in 2006.

The Calgary Flames were the runner-up, not the champion. Their apparent winning goal in Game 6 was disallowed after officials ruled that the puck had been kicked into the net. Tampa Bay then won Game 7, ending the last Cup Final before the lost season.
