Which NHL team is located in Toronto?

The NHL team located in Toronto is the Toronto Maple Leafs. The club is one of the NHL’s oldest franchises and has represented Toronto since the league’s inaugural 1917–18 season.

The franchise originally played as the Toronto Arenas, then became the Toronto St. Patricks in 1919. Conn Smythe purchased the club in 1927 and renamed it the Maple Leafs, a name chosen as a symbol of courage and Canadian identity. Toronto’s home arena is Scotiabank Arena, where the team has played since moving from Maple Leaf Gardens in 1999.

The Maple Leafs have won 13 Stanley Cup championships, including five straight from 1946–47 through 1950–51. They are often confused with the NHL’s other Canadian teams, especially the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, and Winnipeg Jets. Toronto’s professional baseball team also used the Maple Leafs name historically, but this question refers to the NHL hockey franchise.
