Which NHL team is known as the 'Broad Street Bullies'?

The story behind the answer

The Philadelphia Flyers are known as the “Broad Street Bullies.” The nickname refers to the team’s aggressive, physical style during the 1970s, when Philadelphia became one of the NHL’s most intimidating clubs.

The label emerged during the 1972–73 season and was associated with the Flyers’ home arena on Broad Street in Philadelphia. The team combined heavy physical play with strong scoring and quickly shed its image as an ordinary expansion franchise. Players such as Bobby Clarke, Dave Schultz, and Bernie Parent became central figures in the Flyers’ rise.

Philadelphia’s style produced back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 1974 and 1975. The Flyers defeated the Boston Bruins in the 1974 Final and the Buffalo Sabres in 1975. The nickname does not mean the team was only a fighting club: Philadelphia also finished near the top of the standings, produced major award winners, and established itself as a serious championship team.
