Which NHL team drafted Jaromir Jagr in 1990?
Answer
Pittsburgh Penguins
Answer
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins drafted Jaromir Jagr in 1990.
Pittsburgh selected Jagr fifth overall in the first round of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, held in Vancouver on June 16. He came from Poldi SONP Kladno in Czechoslovakia and was already regarded as an exceptional young forward. His selection helped launch one of the most productive European careers in NHL history.
Jagr’s arrival in Pittsburgh placed him alongside Mario Lemieux, one of the league’s dominant stars. The Penguins won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992, giving Jagr championship success early in his career. He later won the Art Ross Trophy five times as the NHL’s scoring leader.
The other options are also notable NHL associations, which can cause confusion. Jagr later played for the Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, and Philadelphia Flyers, but none of those teams drafted him. Pittsburgh traded him to Washington in 2001, after 11 seasons with the Penguins. His No. 68 was retired by Pittsburgh in 2024.
