Which NHL player has the most career goals without ever winning a Stanley Cup?

The story behind the answer

Marcel Dionne has the most career goals among NHL players who never won a Stanley Cup, finishing with 731.

Dionne played 18 NHL seasons from 1971 to 1989, spending most of his career with the Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings before ending with the New York Rangers. He became one of the era’s most productive scorers, combining elite finishing with exceptional playmaking.

His 731 goals ranked sixth on the NHL’s all-time list when this record is discussed, and he added 1,040 assists for 1,771 points. Dionne remains one of only four NHL players to reach both 700 goals and 1,000 assists, alongside Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, and Jaromír Jágr.

The wording matters: Dionne never won the Stanley Cup, but he did reach the playoffs several times and won the Art Ross Trophy in 1979–80. Phil Housley, Mike Gartner, and Jarome Iginla also finished their careers without a Cup, but none scored as many NHL goals as Dionne.
