Which NHL goaltender has the most career regular-season wins?

The story behind the answer

Martin Brodeur has the most career regular-season wins among NHL goaltenders, with 691 victories.

Brodeur spent nearly his entire 22-season career with the New Jersey Devils, playing 1,266 regular-season games. His durability was central to the record: he played more than 70 games in 10 consecutive seasons and recorded eight seasons with at least 40 wins.

Brodeur took the record from Patrick Roy on March 17, 2009, when he earned his 552nd win. He finished with 691 regular-season victories before briefly joining the St. Louis Blues for the final seven games of his career.

A common mix-up is confusing regular-season wins with playoff wins. Roy holds the career playoff record with 151, while Brodeur leads the regular season and also has the most combined regular-season and playoff wins, with 804. Brodeur also won three Stanley Cups with New Jersey.
