Which NHL defenseman won the Norris Trophy in 2022?

Cale Makar won the Norris Trophy in 2022.

The James Norris Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the NHL defenseman who demonstrates the greatest all-around ability at the position. Makar received the 2021–22 award after an outstanding season with the Colorado Avalanche, becoming the first defenseman in franchise history to win it.

Makar produced 28 goals and 86 points in 77 regular-season games, combining elite offensive production with skating, puck movement, and defensive impact. He was also a finalist for the award in 2021, when Adam Fox won it for the New York Rangers.

The other choices were all legitimate contenders or past winners. Victor Hedman won in 2018, while Roman Josi was a 2022 finalist alongside Makar and Fox. Makar’s 2022 honors extended beyond the Norris: he also won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP and the Stanley Cup with Colorado.
