Which new team made the 2026 Formula One grid an eleven-team field?

The story behind the answer

Cadillac Formula 1 Team made the 2026 Formula One grid an eleven-team field.

The team is backed by General Motors and TWG Motorsports and became Formula One’s first new entrant since Haas joined in 2016. Its approval followed a lengthy bid process that initially involved Andretti, but the eventual entry was branded Cadillac rather than Andretti. Cadillac’s debut car uses Ferrari power units while General Motors develops its own Cadillac unit for a later season.

The team’s arrival is easy to confuse with Audi’s 2026 debut. Audi replaced Sauber, so it represents a rebranding and works-team takeover rather than an additional eleventh entry. Cadillac is the entry that expands the field from 10 teams to 11, producing 22 cars.

Cadillac’s first drivers are Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas, both returning after leaving Red Bull and Mercedes respectively. The American marque therefore enters with considerable Formula One experience behind its lineup, even though the team itself is new.
