Which New Mexico village contains Georgia O'Keeffe's long-time home and studio?

The story behind the answer

Abiquiu contains Georgia O'Keeffe's long-time home and studio in New Mexico.

O'Keeffe acquired the historic Abiquiu property in 1945 after admiring it for years. The adobe compound had been neglected, and she worked with architect Juan Hamilton to restore it. The site includes the wall and door that became a celebrated subject in her paintings. She found the simple geometric forms of the architecture as compelling as the surrounding landscape.

O'Keeffe lived and worked at Abiquiu for much of the later part of her life. The house helped structure her daily practice: it provided a studio, a place to arrange objects, and a direct relationship with the high-desert environment. The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum now preserves the property and offers tours during scheduled seasons.

Abiquiu is distinct from Ghost Ranch, another nearby place associated with the artist. She owned or used both locations, but her principal restored home and studio are identified with Abiquiu. The village is about 50 miles north of Santa Fe.
