Answer
The church at Ranchos de Taos
Georgia O'Keeffe repeatedly painted the church at Ranchos de Taos after discovering it in 1930.
The church is San Francisco de Asís Mission Church in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico. O'Keeffe saw the adobe building during her early years of working in the Southwest and returned to its massive walls and sculptural forms in several paintings. She famously described it as one of the most beautiful buildings in the United States.
Her views do not usually present the whole church as a conventional architectural study. Instead, she isolated buttresses, walls, and geometric sections, turning the adobe structure into an abstract arrangement of light, shadow, and earth-colored surfaces.
The site is sometimes confused with Taos Pueblo or San Francisco Cathedral in Santa Fe. Those are different New Mexico landmarks. Ranchos de Taos identifies the village and the mission church that became one of O'Keeffe's best-known Southwestern subjects.
