Which New Mexico home became Georgia O'Keeffe’s year-round residence in 1949?

The story behind the answer

Abiquiú became Georgia O'Keeffe’s year-round New Mexico residence in 1949.

O'Keeffe moved permanently to New Mexico in 1949 and made her home in Abiquiú, a historic village north of Santa Fe. Her Abiquiú house and studio became an important base for her work and remain closely connected with her artistic legacy.

Before acquiring the Abiquiú property, she had spent years visiting and painting around New Mexico. She also maintained a home at Ghost Ranch, a spectacular area farther north that supplied many subjects, including cliffs, hills, and the landscape she called her “faraway.”

Abiquiú is sometimes confused with Santa Fe because the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum is in Santa Fe. The house itself is in Abiquiú, while Ghost Ranch is associated with another residence and with many of her landscape motifs. The Abiquiú property is now preserved as a historic site.
