Which mountain did Georgia O'Keeffe call her private mountain?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe called Cerro Pedernal her private mountain.

Cerro Pedernal is a flat-topped mountain in northern New Mexico that O'Keeffe repeatedly painted. Its distinctive profile and isolated position made it a recognizable subject in works based on the landscape near her homes and working areas. She once wrote that it was her private mountain and that she could not paint it often enough.

The mountain lies in the Jemez Mountains region, east of Abiquiu and near Ghost Ranch. Its name, Pedernal, is Spanish for flint, referring to the area's volcanic geology and hard volcanic rock. The mountain's shape appears in several O'Keeffe paintings, sometimes shown from a distance and sometimes transformed into a simplified, almost abstract form.

Cerro Pedernal should not be confused with the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, another New Mexico range. O'Keeffe's connection with Pedernal was especially personal: her ashes were scattered there after her death in 1986.
