MTV is the network that aired both "Fraternity Life" and "Sorority Life." These reality series followed college students as they went through fraternity and sorority recruitment, pledging, and campus life.
"Sorority Life" premiered on MTV in 2002 and initially followed students at the University of California, Davis. Later seasons moved to the University at Buffalo and the University of Southern California. "Fraternity Life" debuted in 2003 as a related series and followed male students pledging fraternities, including groups at the University at Buffalo and the University of California, Santa Cruz.
The shows were closely connected: "Fraternity Life" was a spin-off of "Sorority Life," and both programs were part of MTV’s early-2000s reality-TV focus on youth culture and unscripted campus drama. Their portrayal of Greek life also generated controversy, particularly over hazing allegations and whether the programs exaggerated stereotypes for entertainment.
A common mix-up is confusing the shows with later college-themed reality programs such as "The Real World" or "Jersey Shore." Neither title belonged to those franchises; both were MTV’s Greek-life series.
