Which network originally broadcast WCW Monday Nitro when it premiered in 1995?

The story behind the answer

TNT originally broadcast WCW Monday Nitro when the program premiered on September 4, 1995.

The weekly show was created as World Championship Wrestling’s answer to the WWF’s Monday Night Raw. Nitro initially aired live from the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, and immediately became central to the Monday Night War between the two promotions.

TNT’s national reach gave WCW a prominent television platform, while the program’s live format encouraged surprise appearances, title changes, and rapid responses to WWF storylines. Nitro eventually became one of the defining wrestling broadcasts of the 1990s.

TBS is a common mix-up because it was another important Turner network and carried much of WCW’s television history, including World Championship Wrestling programming. However, the original Monday-night series was specifically associated with TNT. The show ended in March 2001 after WCW was sold to WWF parent company Titan Sports.
