Which national flag is divided into five diagonal bands of blue, yellow, red, white and green?

The story behind the answer

Seychelles’ national flag is divided into five diagonal bands of blue, yellow, red, white and green.

The Seychelles flag has five rays spreading from the lower hoist corner. These create blue, yellow, red, white and green sections, with the colors symbolizing the ocean and sky, the sun, the people and unity, social justice and harmony, and the land and natural environment.

The current flag was adopted on 18 June 1996. Its radiating design is intended to suggest movement and energy, reflecting the country’s island location and forward-looking national identity. It replaced an earlier flag used after the return to multiparty politics.

Seychelles is sometimes confused with Mauritius because both are island nations in the Indian Ocean and use blue, yellow, red and green. Mauritius, however, has four horizontal stripes, while Seychelles has the immediately recognizable diagonal fan of five colors.
