What monument is depicted on Cambodia’s national flag?
Answer
Angkor Wat
Answer
Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat is depicted on Cambodia’s national flag.
The temple appears in white on the central red band, between two blue horizontal bands. This design has been used in several forms since the early 20th century and was restored when Cambodia became independent from France in 1953.
Angkor Wat was built in the early 12th century under King Suryavarman II. It was originally a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu and later became a Buddhist religious site. Its image represents Cambodia’s cultural heritage and links the modern state to the Khmer Empire.
The flag’s three main colors are blue, red and white. The temple is not a generic pagoda: its central tower and surrounding structures are intended to represent Angkor Wat specifically.
