Italy defeated Czechoslovakia in the 1934 FIFA World Cup final. The match took place at Rome’s Stadio Nazionale PNF on 10 June 1934, with Italy winning 2–1 after extra time.
Czechoslovakia took the lead through Antonín Puč in the 76th minute. Italy equalized through Raimundo Orsi about ten minutes later, sending the final into extra time. Angelo Schiavio then scored the decisive goal in the additional period.
The victory was Italy’s first World Cup title. The 1934 tournament was hosted by Italy and was the first World Cup to use a qualification phase. Uruguay, the 1930 champion, did not defend its title after declining to travel to Europe.
