The Silver Chair features Eustace Scrubb and Jill Pole searching for Prince Rilian.
Published in 1953, the novel begins when Aslan sends Eustace and Jill into Narnia with a mission to find Rilian, the missing son of King Caspian. Jill receives four signs intended to guide the quest, but the children struggle to remember and apply them correctly.
Their journey takes them through the northern regions of Narnia and into the Underland. They are accompanied by Puddleglum, a pessimistic but courageous marsh-wiggle who has become one of the series’ best-known supporting characters.
The book is the fourth Narnia novel by publication order, following The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. It is sometimes confused with Prince Caspian because both involve Narnian royalty, but Rilian and the quest for him are specific to The Silver Chair.
