Which Narnia character is portrayed as a lion?
Answer
Aslan
Answer
Aslan
Aslan is the lion character in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia. He is the central recurring figure across the seven-book series and is presented as the rightful ruler and creator-associated guardian of Narnia.
Aslan first appears in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, published in 1950. In that story, his return is linked to the defeat of the White Witch and the restoration of Narnia. His role continues through later books, although the human characters and historical periods change.
Lewis described Aslan as an imaginative representation of Jesus Christ, but Aslan is not simply a direct retelling of the biblical narrative. The Narnia books combine Christian symbolism with classical mythology, talking animals, fairy-tale structures, and Lewis’s own invented history.
The name is derived from the Turkish word for “lion.” Aslan should not be confused with Prince Caspian, King Peter, or another Narnian ruler: Aslan is the lion who stands above Narnia’s human and animal monarchs.
