Which Narnia character is a lion created by C.S. Lewis as its central Christ figure?

The story behind the answer

Aslan is the lion who serves as the central Christ figure in C.S. Lewis’s Narnia stories.

Aslan is the creator and rightful ruler of Narnia. He appears throughout The Chronicles of Narnia as a powerful, wise, and compassionate guide. In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, he willingly submits to execution on the Stone Table to save Edmund, then returns to life.

Lewis explained that Aslan represents Jesus Christ in the fictional world of Narnia, but Aslan is not simply a disguised retelling of the biblical narrative. The character operates within Narnia’s own mythology and speaks to its inhabitants in ways suited to that world.

Readers sometimes describe Aslan only as Narnia’s king, but that understates his role. He is also the creator of the world and the figure through whom Lewis explores sacrifice, resurrection, judgment, mercy, and moral transformation.
