Which Narnia book by C.S. Lewis was published last?
Answer
The Last Battle
Answer
The Last Battle
The Last Battle was the final Narnia book published by C.S. Lewis.
The Last Battle appeared in 1956 and concludes The Chronicles of Narnia. The story centers on the final conflict in Narnia, involving the false Aslan, the ape Shift, the donkey Puzzle, and the Calormene invasion. King Tirian is the last king of Narnia and one of the book’s principal characters.
Although it was published seventh, The Last Battle is not simply a historical epilogue. It brings together major themes from the series, including loyalty, deception, judgment, and the contrast between the true Narnia and its shadow. The book won the Carnegie Medal in 1957, recognizing it as the outstanding children’s book of the previous year.
The title is sometimes confused with The Silver Chair because that book also features a major rescue and confrontation. Publication history settles the question: The Last Battle was the seventh and final volume released.
