Which musician collaborated with Bowie on the albums Low, Heroes, and Lodger?

The story behind the answer

Brian Eno collaborated with David Bowie on Low, “Heroes,” and Lodger, the three albums commonly called Bowie’s Berlin Trilogy.

Eno brought experimental techniques, electronic textures, and unconventional compositional ideas to the project. Bowie and Eno used chance-based methods, including the Oblique Strategies cards, to disrupt familiar songwriting habits and encourage unexpected arrangements. Tony Visconti produced the albums, while Eno was a creative collaborator and musician rather than the producer of the trilogy.

The trilogy began with Low in 1977, followed by “Heroes” later that year and Lodger in 1979. Despite the nickname, only “Heroes” was recorded entirely in Berlin: Low was recorded largely in France, and Lodger was made in Switzerland and New York.

Robert Fripp contributed notable guitar to “Heroes,” while Iggy Pop and Lou Reed were separate Bowie collaborators. Their connections can cause confusion, but Eno is the musician associated across all three trilogy albums.
