What was the title of David Bowie's 1977 Christmas TV special with Bing Crosby?

The story behind the answer

What was the title of David Bowie’s 1977 Christmas TV special with Bing Crosby? The answer is “Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas.” The programme was a festive television special starring Crosby and his family, with David Bowie, Twiggy, Ron Moody and Stanley Baxter as guests.

The special was taped on 11 September 1977 at ATV Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, England. It aired on CBS in the United States on 30 November 1977 and on ITV in the United Kingdom on 24 December. Because Crosby died in October 1977, the broadcast became his final Christmas special and aired posthumously.

Its best-known moment is the duet “Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy.” Bowie was uncomfortable recording “The Little Drummer Boy” alone, so writers Buz Kohan, Larry Grossman and Ian Fraser created “Peace on Earth” as a contrasting part. Bowie and Crosby met that morning, rehearsed for about an hour and completed the recording in three takes. The song title is not the title of the television special, a common mix-up.
