Which musical won the 2026 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for Cinco Paul?
Answer
Schmigadoon!
Schmigadoon! won the 2026 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for Cinco Paul.
Paul created the stage musical from the television comedy series Schmigadoon!, which he co-created with Ken Daurio. The Broadway production expanded the show's affectionate parody of classic musical-theatre conventions into a full stage story.
At the 79th Tony Awards, Paul also won Best Original Score for Schmigadoon!, making him one of the ceremony's most successful individual winners. The production additionally took Best Musical and Best Orchestrations.
The Best Book award recognizes the writing that shapes a musical's spoken scenes, characters, structure, and dramatic storytelling. It is separate from Best Original Score, which honors music and lyrics. This distinction is why Paul could receive two different writing awards for the same production.
