Which Mortal Kombat character is the princess of Edenia?

The story behind the answer

Kitana is the princess of Edenia in Mortal Kombat lore.

Kitana was introduced in Mortal Kombat II as a royal assassin serving Shao Kahn. Her backstory later established that she is the biological daughter of King Jerrod and Queen Sindel of Edenia. After Shao Kahn conquered Edenia, he adopted Kitana and used her as an agent while concealing her true heritage.

Kitana eventually learns the truth and rebels against Shao Kahn. Her storyline connects the political histories of Edenia and Outworld and places her at the center of several conflicts involving Sindel, Mileena, and Jade. She fights with steel war fans, which became one of her defining visual and gameplay features.

Kitana is often confused with Mileena because the two characters share similar clothing and were created as palette-swapped fighters in Mortal Kombat II. They are not the same person: Mileena is a genetically engineered clone created to serve Shao Kahn, while Kitana is Edenian royalty. Jade is Kitana’s close friend and ally, not Edenia’s princess.
