Mortal Kombat: Deception was released in North America in 2004.
Developed by Midway Games, Deception is the sixth main installment in the fighting-game series. It continued the darker storyline after Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and centered its narrative on the resurrection and rise of the Dragon King, Onaga.
The game expanded beyond traditional one-on-one battles with several substantial modes. Its Konquest mode provided an adventure-style story, while Chess Kombat and Puzzle Kombat offered separate minigame formats. Deception also introduced new playable fighters and returned characters from earlier entries, making its roster and presentation notably broader than the original arcade game.
Deception launched first for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in North America during 2004. A Nintendo GameCube version followed, and an expanded PlayStation Portable edition, Mortal Kombat: Unchained, was released later.
