Jax is the playable protagonist of Mortal Kombat: Special Forces.
Released in 2000, Mortal Kombat: Special Forces is an action-adventure spin-off starring Major Jackson “Jax” Briggs. The story follows Jax as he pursues the Black Dragon criminal organization and attempts to stop Kano and his associates.
Unlike the main fighting games, Special Forces uses exploration, shooting, melee combat, and mission-based progression. Jax’s military background makes him a natural lead for a game built around tactical operations rather than a tournament roster.
Kano is the central antagonist, not the hero. Johnny Cage is another prominent Earthrealm fighter, while Shang Tsung is a sorcerer and major villain in the broader series. None of those characters leads Special Forces.
