Which monument was completed for the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris?

The story behind the answer

The Eiffel Tower was completed for the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris.

The tower was designed by the engineer Gustave Eiffel’s company and built as the entrance arch for an international exhibition celebrating the centenary of the French Revolution. Construction began in 1887 and finished in 1889. At about 300 metres, it was the world’s tallest man-made structure when completed.

Many artists and intellectuals initially criticized the project’s appearance, but the tower became a major attraction during the exhibition. It was built from wrought iron and assembled from thousands of prefabricated pieces using millions of rivets.

The Eiffel Tower was originally intended to be temporary, with a planned lifespan of about 20 years. Its usefulness for radio transmissions helped preserve it, and it later became one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.
