Which men's team event began in 1994 between the U.S. and an International team?

The story behind the answer

The men’s team event that began in 1994 between the United States and an International team is the Presidents Cup.

The inaugural Presidents Cup was played from September 16–18, 1994, at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. The United States defeated the International team 20–12, establishing a biennial match-play competition modeled in part on the Ryder Cup, but with players from countries outside Europe representing the International side.

The event was created through a partnership involving the PGA Tour and golf administrators, with the first contest held under the honorary chairmanship of former U.S. president Gerald Ford. Matches included four-ball, foursomes and singles, formats that test both teamwork and individual performance.

The Ryder Cup is the most common wrong answer because it is also a major U.S.-versus-other-team competition, but it began much earlier, in 1927, and pits the United States against Europe. The Walker Cup is an amateur event, while the Eisenhower Trophy is a world amateur team championship.
