Which Melbourne Park arena was formerly known as Hisense Arena?

The story behind the answer

Melbourne Park’s arena formerly known as Hisense Arena is now called John Cain Arena.

The multipurpose venue opened in 2000 and initially carried the sponsored name Vodafone Arena. In 2008, a naming-rights agreement changed its name to Hisense Arena, a title it retained for roughly a decade. The arena was also used for basketball, netball, cycling and other events, not only Australian Open tennis.

After the Hisense agreement ended, Tennis Australia renamed the building Melbourne Arena in 2018. In February 2020, Victoria announced that it would be renamed John Cain Arena, honoring John Cain Jr., the former Victorian premier credited with helping keep the Australian Open in Melbourne during the 1980s. The new name took effect in December 2020.

The arena is Melbourne Park’s second-largest tennis venue and has a retractable roof. It is sometimes nicknamed “the People’s Court” because Australian Open ground-pass holders can often access matches there, creating a famously lively atmosphere.
