“I'm Lovin' It” launched internationally in 2003 and became McDonald's global tagline.
The campaign marked a shift toward a short, conversational phrase that could work across many languages and markets. Its wording expressed enjoyment without naming a particular menu item, allowing McDonald's to use it for food, restaurants, music, and lifestyle-focused advertising.
The campaign was supported by a pop-oriented advertising package and a song associated with Justin Timberlake. The phrase was also presented in McDonald's distinctive “i'm lovin' it” styling, which helped make it recognizable in signs, packaging, and commercials.
It followed earlier slogans such as “You Deserve a Break Today,” but it was designed as a more globally unified brand platform. Country-specific campaigns still existed, yet the 2003 tagline became one of the clearest examples of McDonald's international branding.
