“I’m Lovin’ It” became McDonald’s global English-language tagline after its launch in 2003.
The phrase was introduced as part of a worldwide marketing campaign that began in Munich, Germany. Its informal contraction and upbeat tone were intended to sound like a personal expression of enjoyment rather than a formal corporate promise.
The campaign was adapted for different countries and languages, but the English wording remained highly visible in international branding. It followed several earlier McDonald’s slogans, including “You Deserve a Break Today,” which belonged to a different advertising era.
The tagline is sometimes confused with the campaign’s musical hook or with earlier McDonald’s advertising lines. Those elements supported the campaign, but the canonical slogan itself is the four-word phrase “I’m Lovin’ It.”
