The Big Mac gave McDonald’s the advertising line “Two all-beef patties.”
The Big Mac is a double-patty hamburger with a distinctive three-part bun, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and Big Mac sauce. Its layered construction made it visually different from a standard hamburger and gave McDonald’s a flagship product around which to build memorable advertising.
The line “Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame-seed bun” became a widely recognized description of the sandwich. It functioned as both a jingle and a compact piece of product branding.
The Big Mac was created by franchisee Jim Delligatti and introduced nationally in 1968. It is sometimes confused with the Quarter Pounder, but that sandwich is identified by the weight of its beef patty rather than the Big Mac’s two-patty structure and special sauce.
