The Big Mac inspired the name of McDonald’s Big Mac Museum in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
The museum opened in 2007 at a McDonald’s restaurant near the product’s historical home region. It contains Big Mac memorabilia and displays related to the sandwich’s development, advertising, and place in McDonald’s history.
Jim Delligatti, a McDonald’s franchisee, created the Big Mac in 1967 in the Pittsburgh area. McDonald’s introduced it nationally in 1968, and the sandwich became one of the company’s most recognizable branded products.
The museum is not the company’s corporate headquarters or a general McDonald’s history museum. Its name specifically celebrates the Big Mac and the local history associated with its creation.
