Which McDonald’s menu item gave the brand the slogan “Big Mac Attack” in a 1970s advertising campaign?

The story behind the answer

The Big Mac gave McDonald’s the slogan “Big Mac Attack” in a 1970s advertising campaign.

The Big Mac was created by franchisee Jim Delligatti and introduced nationally in 1968. Its distinctive three-part bun, two beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions made it more than a standard hamburger: it became a signature product with its own identity.

Advertising helped turn the Big Mac into a branding asset. The “Big Mac Attack” campaign promoted the sandwich’s oversized personality, while the later “Big Mac” jingle famously listed its ingredients in rhythm. These campaigns made the product name and recipe memorable beyond the restaurant menu.

The Big Mac is sometimes dated to 1967 because it was tested and introduced regionally then. Its national launch is generally given as 1968.
