The Big Mac gave the 1974 McDonald’s advertising jingle its opening words “Two all-beef patties.”
The jingle described the sandwich’s layered construction: two beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and a sesame-seed bun. Its compact wording turned a list of ingredients into one of the most memorable pieces of fast-food advertising.
The Big Mac was created by Jim Delligatti, a McDonald’s franchisee, and introduced nationally in 1968. The sandwich’s distinctive three-part bun and special sauce made it particularly suitable for ingredient-based advertising.
The jingle is often remembered simply as “the Big Mac song,” but its importance was broader than entertainment. It established a verbal formula that reinforced both product recognition and brand consistency. The Quarter Pounder and Filet-O-Fish had their own campaigns, but neither supplied this specific ingredient sequence.
