Which McDonald's character was the chain's fictional mayor in McDonaldland?

Mayor McCheese was the fictional mayor of McDonaldland.

Mayor McCheese was a human-like character with a large cheeseburger for a head. He appeared in McDonald's advertising as a civic leader within the chain's fantasy setting, surrounded by other food-themed and whimsical characters. His design connected the imaginary world directly to the restaurant's menu.

Mayor McCheese is sometimes confused with Officer Big Mac, another McDonaldland character whose name referenced a McDonald's sandwich. The two had different roles in the advertising stories. Mayor McCheese's appearance also illustrates how McDonaldland used personified food and exaggerated costumes to make brand elements memorable to children.
