Which McDonald’s character was known for wearing a monocle and top hat?

Mayor McCheese was the McDonald’s character known for wearing a monocle and top hat.

Mayor McCheese appeared in McDonaldland advertising as a mayor whose head was shaped like a cheeseburger. His formal clothing, sash, monocle, and top hat gave him the visual appearance of a civic official while keeping the character tied directly to McDonald’s food.

He was part of the large character ensemble developed for McDonald’s children’s marketing in the 1970s. The character appeared alongside Ronald McDonald, the Hamburglar, Grimace, and other figures in commercials and promotional material.

Mayor McCheese is sometimes confused with Officer Big Mac, another McDonaldland character with a hamburger-based design. Their roles were different: Mayor McCheese represented civic authority, while Officer Big Mac was associated with law enforcement. Both helped extend the restaurant’s visual brand beyond its logo.
