Officer Big Mac was the McDonald’s character portrayed as a police officer with a Big Mac-shaped head.
Officer Big Mac belonged to the original McDonaldland advertising cast, a group of colorful characters developed to make McDonald’s products and restaurants part of a fictional children’s world. His design combined a police-officer role with a head shaped like the Big Mac sandwich, creating a direct visual link to one of McDonald’s signature products.
The character appeared alongside Ronald McDonald, Mayor McCheese, Captain Crook, the Hamburglar and other figures. McDonaldland characters were used in commercials, packaging and promotional material, although their prominence changed over time.
Officer Big Mac is especially easy to confuse with Mayor McCheese. Mayor McCheese had a cheeseburger head and wore a mayoral outfit, while Officer Big Mac had the Big Mac-shaped head and represented law enforcement. These role-and-design differences identify the correct character.
