Mac Tonight was the crescent-moon character used in McDonald’s late-1980s advertising campaign.
The character appeared as a smiling crescent moon wearing sunglasses and promoted McDonald’s as an evening destination. The campaign used a modified version of “Mack the Knife,” a song associated with Bobby Darin, to create a memorable nighttime identity for the restaurants.
Mac Tonight is often confused with McMuffin Man because both belonged to specialized menu advertising. Their roles were different: McMuffin Man supported breakfast promotion, while Mac Tonight encouraged customers to visit at night. The campaign became one of McDonald’s most recognizable short-lived branding efforts and remains notable for linking a fast-food restaurant with an adult-oriented lounge-song style.
