Which McDonaldland character was portrayed as the community’s mayor?

Mayor McCheese was the McDonaldland character portrayed as the community’s mayor.

The character appeared in McDonald’s advertising beginning in the early 1970s. His design combined a human body in formal clothing with a large cheeseburger for a head, making the character an immediate visual extension of McDonald’s food branding.

Mayor McCheese was part of a larger cast that included Grimace, the Hamburglar, Birdie, and other characters. The advertisements presented McDonaldland as a playful fantasy world built around recognizable menu items and restaurant imagery.

Readers sometimes confuse Mayor McCheese with Officer Big Mac because both were authority figures in the same advertising universe. Mayor McCheese’s defining role, however, was political and civic: he was the town’s mayor. The character became less prominent as McDonald’s moved away from large-scale McDonaldland campaigns.
